Lacrosse positional training is a targeted approach designed to enhance the abilities of players based on their specific roles on the field. This type of training is crucial for maximizing performance and ensuring that each player can execute their responsibilities effectively.

Overall, lacrosse positional training is tailored to the unique demands of each position, ensuring that players are well-prepared to excel in their roles on the field. Through focused drills, tactical exercises, and game scenarios, players enhance their skills and contribute effectively to their team's success.

PLL Perks!

2024 South Bay Lacrosse Club Fall Positional Training is a multi-week training program to advance your lacrosse skills to the next level. Focusing on position specific skills, drills and lacrosse IQ in this training, your lacrosse is bound to improve. This program caters for all levels and abilities and participants will be split according to skill level and age on-site.

Coaches: This program will be delivered by your South Bay Lacrosse Club coaches as well as two appearances from PLL Pro Player Romar Dennis on November 4th & 11th.

Offensive Training:

Attackmen are primarily responsible for scoring goals and creating offensive opportunities. Offensive training emphasizes:

  • Stick Handling: Developing quick and precise stick skills for shooting, passing, and dodging.
  • Shooting Techniques: Perfecting various shooting styles, including overhand, sidearm, and underhand shots.
  • Movement Off the Ball: Learning to read the defense, make effective cuts, and create space for themselves and their teammates.
  • Finishing at the Net: Practicing close-range shots and improving accuracy under pressure.

Defensemen Training:

Defensemen are tasked with preventing goals and protecting the crease. Their training includes:

  • Defensive Stance and Footwork: Mastering proper stance, positioning, and lateral movement to contain attackers.
  • Checking Techniques: Practicing legal checking methods to disrupt the attacker's flow without drawing penalties.
  • Communication: Coordinating with fellow defenders and the goalie to form a cohesive defensive unit.
  • Clearing and Transitioning: Learning effective strategies to clear the ball from the defensive zone and transition to offense.

 

Goalie Training:

Goalies are the last line of defense and play a crucial role in preventing goals. Their training focuses on:

  • Save Techniques: Mastering various save techniques, including high saves, low saves, and reaction saves.
  • Positioning: Learning optimal positioning to cover the goal and respond to different types of shots.
  • Clearing the Ball: Developing strong and accurate clearing passes to initiate fast breaks and transition play.
  • Communication: Directing the defense, calling out plays, and organizing the team’s defensive strategies.
